Aim: To consider what the purpose of a DPS is and the key featureswithin them as an article

What is a DPS?

  • A DPS or a double page spread is mostly seen in the direct middle of a magazine.
  • A DPS will feature over 2 pages next to each other with a big recognizable picture with a full blown interview.
  • The quotes in a DPS are usually enlarged to attract the reader into reading the article.
  • Picture is usually on the left as it must attract the eye from left to right.

Looking in "The Trap" magazine.

I have chose to find double page spreads from the hip hop magazine "The Trap"
  • ''Special Request'' about Paul Woodfords Hotflush Album
  • ''Street Boutique'' discussing independent shops in London.
  • ''Claude Vonstroke'' releasing his third album about inner city life
  • ''I am Legion...For we are many'' Release on a 5 year album.
  • ''Bringing it home'' discussing Rudimental reaching UK number 1 on their new single ''Home''.

Analysing a DPS about ''Bringing It Home'' about Rudimental

What does the headline suggest about the story?
The headline ''Bringing It Home'' suggests that the band Rudimental are returning to their home country or town with either some great awards or great news. This makes the reader want to read on to see what Rudimental have planned on their return to London.

What is the main message of this article?

The main message of this article is to let their readers know about Regimental's debut number 1 album ''Home''. They also use the article to discuss the details of the album which includes: Tracks on the album, it has just gone platinum, receiving a mercury prize nomination and their success up to date.

How does the first line try to interest you? The first line is ''As strange as it may seem to older readers, we live in a time when it's no longer unusual to switch on your TV or radio, walk into a high-street coffee shop or even dragged along to some dodgy nightclub on a work do and be greeted by what were once the underground strains of dance music blasting out in the back ground.''
